Install AstraCode
Download AstraCode for macOS or Linux, sign in, and open your first project.
AstraCode is a desktop code editor. The keybindings, settings and extensions you already use work here, with extensions installed from Open VSX.
Download
- macOS: download the
.dmgfrom the download page, open it, and drag AstraCode to Applications. - Linux: download the
.tar.gz, extract it anywhere, and run theastracodebinary inside.
macOS builds are signed and notarised, so Gatekeeper opens them without a warning. If you see one, the download did not finish. Check the file size and download it again.
Open the chat panel and choose Sign in. That links the editor to your account, and the model requests you make are billed against your plan. You do not need an API key of your own: requests go through the AstraCode gateway, which handles the provider keys.
Your browser opens to finish signing in, or to create an account, and the editor waits up to thirty minutes for you. If you take longer, the editor says so and offers Sign in again; you are already signed in on the site by then, so it takes one click. A browser tab ending on a 127.0.0.1 address that will not load means the editor stopped waiting.
If you would rather use your own provider account, you can. See Bring your own key.
Open a project
The start screen offers Open project for a single folder and Open workspace for a .code-workspace file holding several. If you work across more than one repository, read Working across several repositories first, because it changes how the agent addresses your files.
