Agent overview
What the agent is, how a run works, and where to go next.
In Agent mode the model works by calling tools: it reads files, searches, edits, runs commands, and calls whatever connectors you have configured. Every call appears in the transcript as it happens.
A run ends when the model has nothing left to do, and before it reports finished, AstraCode runs your project's own check and hands back any failure. That is what distinguishes a finished run from one that merely stopped.
The pages in this section:
- What the agent can do: the tools it has.
- Approvals and permissions: how much it asks.
- Running commands: the shell, and background tasks.
- Plan mode: agreeing the approach before any code changes.
- Browser tools: checking your running app.
- Checkpoints and undo: every way back.
- Running several agents at once: worktrees.
- Infrastructure as code: Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm and Docker, safely.
