Download

Install it, sign in, and point it at a repository that matters.

macOS

Apple silicon, macOS 12 or later, Drag it to Applications and open it.

Download for macOS

Or with Homebrew: brew install --cask astracode-io/tap/astracode

Linux

x64, Debian and Ubuntu. Installs to your applications menu, with sign-in links working.

Download .deb

Setting up the .deb (Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Mint, Pop!_OS)

  1. Recommended: add our signed repository, once. apt checks every download against our key, and updates arrive with your other updates. curl -fsSL https://astracode.io/downloads/astracode.gpg | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/astracode.gpg >/dev/null echo 'deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/astracode.gpg] https://astracode.io/downloads/apt stable main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/astracode.list sudo apt update && sudo apt install astracode
  2. Or install the file you downloaded. Ubuntu's App Center calls any downloaded package "Potentially unsafe"; the repository above avoids that. sudo apt install ./AstraCode-linux-x64.deb
  3. Open it from the menu, or from a terminal. astracode
  4. The settings page opens on the first launch. Click Sign in: your browser opens, you approve, and you are sent back to the editor already signed in.
  5. Chat is in the right-hand panel. Press Tab to accept a completion. The free plan needs no card.

Setting up the .rpm (Fedora 36+, RHEL 9+, openSUSE)

  1. Recommended: add our signed repository, once. dnf checks every download against our key, and updates arrive with your other updates. sudo rpm --import https://astracode.io/downloads/astracode.asc printf '[astracode]\nname=AstraCode\nbaseurl=https://astracode.io/downloads/yum\nenabled=1\ngpgcheck=0\nrepo_gpgcheck=1\ngpgkey=https://astracode.io/downloads/astracode.asc\n' | sudo tee /etc/yum.repos.d/astracode.repo sudo dnf install astracode
  2. Or install the file you downloaded. sudo dnf install ./AstraCode-linux-x64.rpm

Setting up the .tar.gz (Arch, NixOS, anything else)

  1. Extract it somewhere it can stay. mkdir -p ~/astracode && tar -xzf AstraCode-linux-x64.tar.gz -C ~/astracode
  2. Register it with your desktop. This is the step the packages do for you: without it there is no menu entry, and the browser has no way to send sign-in back to the editor. ~/astracode/install-desktop.sh
  3. Open it from the menu, or from a terminal. ~/astracode/bin/astracode
  4. The settings page opens on the first launch. Click Sign in: your browser opens, you approve, and you are sent back to the editor already signed in.

Windows

Coming soon, Tell us you want it and we will email you the day it ships.

Prefer the terminal?

The AstraCode CLI is the same agent without the editor: a conversation in your terminal, a task from CI, a branch review, or your agent inside Zed and JetBrains.

curl -fsSL https://astracode.io/install | sh

Or with Homebrew: brew install astracode-io/tap/astracode-agent

More about the CLI

Or add it to the editor you already use

AstraCode also installs as an extension, into most popular editors, on every platform including Windows. Same account, same free tier, same agent.

Install from Open VSX — or run ext install astracode.astracode-ai in your editor.
